Melanie Ward works in international development for one of the UK’s biggest global poverty charities, where she has a particular focus on the impact of international tax avoidance and on women’s rights. She has also worked on foreign policy issues including the Middle East Peace Process and climate change. She has worked for David Blunkett in the UK Parliament, where her focus was on areas including social mobility, financial inclusion and Labour’s record in Government. Melanie has also worked for an education charity and on immigration issues at the Home Office. As a former President of the National Union of Students Scotland, she has significant experience of working on further and higher education.
Melanie is Treasurer of the Labour Women’s Network and is a passionate believer that Scotland’s future is most secure as part of the UK. She has a degree from the University of Stirling and a Masters in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London.
