Join LWN AT OUR 'LET'S TALK' EVENT TO DISCUSS MISOGYNY AND POLICING.
It has been well documented that British police forces have systemic problems with racism, misogyny and homophobia, with report after report laying its failings bare.
The most recent report, commissioned by the Metropolitan Police after the Sarah Everard murder, was written by Dame Louise Casey. The 363 page report details disturbing accounts of sexual assaults - frequently covered up or downplayed - with a staggering 12% of women in the Met saying they had been harassed or attacked while at work, and one-third experiencing sexism. And its clear that these problems are not confined to London. Meanwhile, women members of the public report significantly diminished confidence in policing, after botched cases, victim-blaming messaging and high profile cases of sexually violent sitting police officers.
So, we would like to invite you to join LWN to 'Let's Talk' 'Misogyny and Policing: How do we clean up our forces and regain women's trust?'
We hope for a wide ranging discussion about how a future Labour Government should tackle the issue and create a Police service that can be trusted to keep women and girls safe.
Speakers include;
Jess Phillips MP, Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding,
Sarah Jones MP, Shadow Policing Minister, and
Cllr Shaista Aziz, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Oxford City Council
