LWN news in June

Welcome to our June newsletter. We're not letting the lack of summer sun get us down at LWN; instead we're organising a host of great events to keep the cold weather blues away.

A message from LWN Chair Jo Cox

Join.pngAt this years annual fundraiser, we learnt how dangerously persuasive Stella Creasy MP can be when she has a microphone in her hand, we learnt that in part thanks to LWN the number of talented women winning for Labour just keeps growing (thanks for inspiring us with your personal story, Emma Lewell-Buck MP) and from Lisa Nandy MP we learnt that just 35 women have been in the cabinet since the 1920s, so our work is not yet done. We also saw just what it looks like when a virtual ribbon is virtually cut - and you can too, by checking out our shiny new website at www.lwn.org.uk.

donate.pngThanks to everyone for helping us raise some £8000. As you know it costs each graduate just £135 for an LWN training weekend, but with the subsidy that our fundraising allows each individual actually gets £1,000 worth of investment. Every penny counts when it comes to our fundraising. More money means we can do more to support more Labour women make their voices heard in our Party.

Scottish Political Conference - June 22nd

We’re excited to announce our first Scottish Political conference, in partnership with the Scottish Fabians and the Scottish Co-operative Party. The conference is a one day event that focuses on participation, power and how we can renew our democracy.

The event comprises two parts: in the morning LWN will host a programme for women to promote greater participation of women in public and political life; in the afternoon Scottish Fabians will host a policy conference looking at political power and how decision making can be brought closer to people and democracy can be renewed to place people at its heart.

Join us for discussion, debate, training and a keynote speech from Johann Lamont MSP, Scottish Labour Party Leader. You can find more details about the event and book tickets here.

Dates for your diary

Political Day (North)

September 14th, Manchester

After the phenomenal success of our first political day we’re heading to Manchester for our inaugural Northern Political Day. There'll be sessions on what a Labour government will need to do to regenerate the north of England, what the Party's offer in our heartlands at the next election needs to be and how the women of the Irish Labour Party ran a successful campaign for legal quotas, as well as much, much more. We'll be announcing the line-up of speakers and how to book soon so keep an eye on the website.

Aspiring Candidate Training

Although the weather tells a different story, we’re over half way through the year - but we still have three of our famous weekend training events to deliver before the year is out, and our graduates agree that it’s time well spent.

31st August-1st September, Glasgow

26th-27th October, Watford

7th-8th December, Leeds

Find out more about the training and how to apply on our website
