Speakers for Women Leading with Tech

Dr Allison Gardner is the Labour MP for Stoke-on-Trent South

Allison is chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Identity APPG. She is also a member of the Science, Innovation and Technology Select Committee. 
  
Before entering Parliament, Allison worked with the NHS as a Senior Scientific Adviser for Artificial Intelligence, served as a director of 'Women Leading in AI' and worked internationally with governments and organisations, such as the UN, to advocate for the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence.

Before this, she spent over 25 years as a Science and PSHE teacher in secondary schools. During that time, she completed a PhD in Molecular Biology and later lectured at Keele University, where she led the Data Science Degree Apprenticeship programme.

Allison is a graduate of Labour Women's Network training schemes.

Dawn Butler is the Labour MP for Brent East

Dawn began her career as a computer programmer and systems analyst before becoming a civil servant and later working for the GMB and an advisor to London's mayor on employment and social issues.

Dawn entered Parliament in the 2005, becoming the third Black woman to be elected, and served in Gordon Brown's government as the Minister for Young Citizens and Youth Engagement, making her the first Black woman to serve as a government minister in the UK.

After a period out of office, she was re-elected in 2015. Since returning to Parliament, she has been a prominent campaigner on issues such as youth engagement, social justice, and equality; and served as Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities.

Dr Rosena Allin-Khan is the Labour MP for Tooting

Rosena began her professional life in the medical field before entering Parliament in 2016 for her home town of Tooting. She worked as a junior doctor in the Accident and Emergency department at St George's Hospital in Tooting (including during Parliamentary recesses). She served as a humanitarian aid doctor in Rohingya refugee camps on the border of Myanmar, in Palestine to highlight the need for better access to medical treatment for Palestinians and in Ukraine after the war started to provide humanitarian supplies and support to Ukrainian civilians who were injured during Russia's invasion.

Rosena was proud to serve as Labour's Shadow Cabinet Minister for Mental Health, calling out the Conservative Government failures and developing Labour policies.

Natasha Dhumma is the Deputy Director at National Union of Students (NUS)

Natasha is Director of Movement Development at National Union of Students (NUS), responsible for its democracy, membership and movement building strategy. Natasha’s focus is on building an inclusive student voice and strong and healthy student activism that can unlock the collective power of the 4 million students and apprentices represented by NUS.

Natasha has held campaigns and policy roles at National AIDS Trust, Release, StopWatch and UNITED network previously, developing a specialism in anti-racist work at UK and European level.


Sorcha Scully is the VP of Marketing at NationBuilder

Sorcha is the VP of Marketing at NationBuilder where she leads the brand and go to market motion focused on providing access to the tools of Democracy to more political, brand, and non-profit organizations around the globe. She is a political strategy leader, committed to building community in an effort to develop more effective leaders from all walks of life. 

Sorcha currently lives and works in Boston, MA.  She completed her undergraduate degree in Political Science and History at the University of Portsmouth in England before relocating to Boston, Massachusetts. At 22 she became the youngest member of her graduating class to receive a Master’s in Political Science from Suffolk University. 

Prior to joining NationBuilder, Sorcha worked as a Senior Associate of Dewey Square Group where she developed and managed grassroots organizations for a variety of candidates, ballot initiatives, businesses, and non-profits. Sorcha has also served as a political advisor on a number of federal, state and municipal campaigns across New England.

Currently, Sorcha serves her communities in the following capacities. US Ambassador for the British and Irish Trading Alliance, as a board member for Suffolk University Alumni and the Boston & New England Rose of Tralee. She is also the co-host of the Unapologetic Women podcast.

Hannah O’ Rourke is the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Campaign Lab

Hannah is an organiser with a decade of political experience. She runs Campaign Lab, a network of technologists driving innovation in progressive campaigns.

A lecturer at the London College of Political Technology and advisor to the Civic AI Observatory, she previously directed Labour Together, convening the influential 2019 Election Review. Her work explores the practical intersection of technology and politics.
