Southampton to Sherwood, Kingswood to Kilburn

Summer’s finally arrived, but there’s no time for sunbathing at LWN - although we’re looking forward to our AGM by the Brighton seaside.

We’ve been busy planning not one, but two, Political Days, training weekends and with even more of our graduates getting selected we’re booked up for doorstep duties until 2015.

This month's newsletter is packed with news and enough events to keep you busy until next summer.

Southampton to Sherwood, Kingswood to Kilburn

LWN graduates continue to get selected across the country, and last weekend we were delighted to see Tulip Siddiq (Hampstead & Kilburn), Josie Channer (Bristol Kingswood), Rowenna Davis (Southampton) and Leonie Mathers (Sherwood) added to the list. Leonie is one of only two women selected so far from open shortlists, whilst Josie is the first black woman to be selected to fight a seat in 2015.

Congratulations to all of them – the full list of graduates selected so far includes a wide range of women from diverse backgrounds and experiences, but what they all have in common is a real commitment to winning for Labour and getting rid of the Tory-led government at the next election.

If you’d like to come on our course and find out how we can help you to be ready for selection (or for any other goal in the Party) there are still places available on our courses in Watford and Leeds in the autumn. Find out more and apply here.

Northern Political Day

AGM

The LWN AGM is our annual democratic event. It is only open to women members of Labour Women's Network.

The Annual General Meeting will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 21st, in the Cambridge Room at the Hilton, Brighton.

This year, our AGM will be held immediately before National Women’s Conference. This will be inside the secure zone of Conference, and it is essential that you hold a pass. If you do not have a pass (either for the whole of Annual Conference, or a 1-day Women's Conference pass) you will not be able to attend the LWN AGM.

We're pleased to announce that we have secured a special deal with the Labour Party for LWN members attending our AGM.

If you're coming to the LWN AGM, you will be able to get a free pass for Labour's National Women’s Conference – just tick the box to attend both when you apply. (You can do so here http://www.labour.org.uk/womens-conference-2013)

This offer is only available to those LWN members attending the AGM - to be eligible, you must register here for the AGM before applying for your free pass for Labour Women's Conference.

To attend the AGM:

Proposals for changes to LWN's Rules must be emailed to [email protected]  by no later than 5 pm on Friday, 30 August, and will be voted on at the AGM. A copy of the current Rules can be viewed here.

Elections

This year we will be holding elections for the Secretary, Chair and five committee members, who will hold office for two years until 2015.

All of our Committee members work as a team; we are a voluntary organisation and therefore we depend on our committee to develop and deliver our training and events, run the organisation, raise funds and so on. This year we are particularly looking for people with the skills to help us grow our membership and increase our high-value fundraising, but anyone with the commitment and enthusiasm to help take LWN to the next level will be welcome.

Nominations will close at 5 pm on Friday, 16 August 2013. The elections will be independently run by Electoral Reform Services, and the ballot will open on 27 August. Voting will be online for all members for whom we have email addresses, and by post for the remainder. The results will be announced at the AGM, and all nominees will be notified of the outcome by email.
