“Abuse of women in public life - How can we make politics safe again, online and on the streets?”
Alongside the Jo Cox Foundation, Labour Women’s Network are proud to host this event to address the epidemic of abuse directed at women in public life, and ask how we can make politics safer for all. Women are 27 times more likely to be abused online than men, and during recent local and European elections, women councillors and MPs reported incidents of verbal and even physical abuse. Whose responsibility is it to curb it, and what actions can be taken?
Invited guest include:
Rt. Hon Diane Abbott MP, Shadow Home Secretary,
Hannah Barlett, Political Correspondent at the Daily Mirror
Cllr Cathy Cordiner-Achenbach, Assaulted in elected campaign
Naz Shah MP, Shadow Minister for Women & Equalities
Jacqui Smith, Chair, Jo Cox Foundation and LWN Management Committee Member.
* Tuesday 24th September | 18:45- 20:15 | Clyde Room, Hilton Brighton Metropole *
“The Glass Ceiling Smashers: First person narratives of women blazing trails in male-dominated spheres ”
When will we see a woman President of the USA? A woman Governor of the Bank of England? A woman Leader of the Labour Party? What gives the women smashing glass ceilings their motivation and resilience? Is their leadership feminist? What drives them to persist?
Join Labour Women’s Network for a thoughtful and inspiring evening looking at the personal and political attributes of women trail blazers, and which ceilings could be smashed next.
Invited guests include;
Tara O'Reilly, founder, Women in Westminster,
Olga Fitzroy, Multi Award Winning Sound Engineer,
Ivana Bartoletti, Women Leading in Artificial Intelligence,
Madison Marriage, FT Presidents’ Club scandal journalist,
