The 25th November sees the start of 16 Days of Activism for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

2021 has been as aggrieving as any year in terms of the volume and severity of incidents of violence against women and girls, along with the maddeningly insufficient response, from "Women- don't wear headphones" to "Women- if attacked, hail a bus". Women are angry. Deep, lasting and resourced action is needed to reduce male violence. But what works?

During this year's 16 Days of Activism, the UN will focus on amplifying the call for global action to bridge funding gaps, ensure essential services for survivors of violence during the COVID-19 crisis, focus on prevention, and collection of data that can improve life-saving services for women and girls.

As part of the 16 days of activism LWN are excited and proud to be hosting a joint event with Labour Foreign Policy Group on Monday 29th November 2021 from 8pm till 9pm via Zoom. In an honest but solution focussed even, we will look at initiatives that have worked and had a positive impact, both home and abroad.

This is a free event but you must register in advance.

We are delighted to announce an inspiring line up of speakers:

  • Barakzai, Former Afghan MP and Ambassador to Norway
  • Preet Gill MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development
  • Scheaffer Okore, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Women Political Leaders Organisation
  • Deeba Syed, Lawyer and Women’s Rights Activist
  • Chaired by Cllr Alice Macdonald, Labour Foreign Policy Group, Executive Member
