I have been an active member and campaigner in the Labour Party for over 20 years and have been responsible for running campaigns at every level local, national and European.  The founding member of Manchester Labour Women’s Forum I am committed to ensuring equality of representation at all political levels.

I was elected in May 2010 to represent the Longsight ward on Manchester City Council.  Through this role I have developed experience of community engagement, effective scrutiny and I have just joined a climate change working group to help drive forward the City’s Climate Change Action Plan.

Elected as Lead Member for Women on Manchester City Council in June 2010 I helped raise the profile of women’s issues within the City Council and beyond.  With a strong background in campaigning I support women’s organisations in and around Manchester in engaging and influencing policy in the City.

In my day job I work for a Member of the European Parliament, where I am responsible for political and media communications and as a result have a good general background in European policy.

I have been a primary school Governor for 3 years and have just been invited on to the Governors of a new free school which is being established in my ward.  I also hold Board positions on a local community radio station and social housing provider.
