Labour women in history graphicThis year we celebrate the centenary of the first Labour-led government and the first to include any women.

Join Labour and feminist historian Nan Sloane and Kiran Mahil, LWN Secretary and self-confessed history buff, to hear about Labour’s pioneering women, the part they played, and what we can still learn from their experience.

Nan Sloane is an author, speaker and LWN trainer. Her books include Uncontrollable Women: Radicals, Reformers and Revolutionaries, and The Women In the Room: Labour’s Forgotten History. A member of the LWN Committee since 2007, she is the architect of the LWN Political School, the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Scheme and the Chris Herries Development Programme. Outside of the UK she has delivered training in the Balkans, in Middle East and North African countries, as well as in Ghana, Botswana and South Africa. She was previously Regional Director of Yorkshire & Humber Labour, and Director of the Centre for Women & Democracy.

Kiran Mahil was elected Secretary of LWN in 2019. Originally from the West Midlands, Kiran works as an Assistant Head Teacher in an East End secondary school. She is passionate about embedding inclusion and resilience in education.  She was previously National Women's Officer for the Labour Party, and an advisor to Rt Hon Yvette Cooper MP, where she worked to reveal the disproportionate impact of austerity on women, and is a graduate of the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Scheme.

This events are open to all women members of the Labour Party (or those who support the aims of the Labour Party), and while membership of LWN isn't necessary to attend, we hope that you consider joining LWN here (if you are not already a member) as we are only able to provide these activities because of LWN members' subs and fundraising.

Safeguarding and Zoom Etiquette we expect all LWN events to be conducted in an atmosphere of sisterly respect, abusive or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and participants may be asked to leave.

We will record this event to share on LWN website and social media, however this will be announced at the start of the event
and time is given to amend video/name display settings, should you wish.

Please be aware, we if you have signed up to this event but have unsubscribed or opted out of our emails, due to GDPR we are unable to communicate with you, and we cannot overwrite the system – Sorry!  You can sign-up again to give us permission to email you here.
