2ND ANNUAL DINNER, 12 June 2012.
In June 2012 we hosted our second Annual Dinner, where we also launched the LWN Margaret Bondfield. The dinner was attended by more than 150 Labour activists, peers, MPs, MEPs, Councillors and shadow Ministers.
LWN had a packed diary of events for Labour women at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool this year.
ACTIVE WOMEN TRAINING SESSION: Sunday 25 September, 10:15 to 11:15, ACC Hall 2E
LWN’s hour-long session was all about how to make the most of being a woman in the Labour Party, thinking through how to get more involved with your local party, how to get together with other women in your area to discuss policy and share campaigning, and how to deal with some of the practical barriers women sometimes face.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Monday 26 September, 7:30pm, Premier Inn, Albert Dock (near the Conference Centre). The guest speaker this year was Rachel Reeves MP.
Carry on Campaigning: How women can do it for themselves
Keynote speaker: Kate Green MP, Chair, Women’s Parliamentary Labour Party
Chair: Ronit Wolfson, Young Labour
Panel: Melanie Ward, Labour Women’s Network; Kathryn Perera, Movement for Change; Jessica Asato, Labour councillor & social media consultant; Michaela Ward, Young Labour Women’s Officer
In September 2011, Labour Women’s Network and Young Labour hosted a round table discussion with Kate Green MP and some of our most experienced female campaigners to talk about how we can empower the next generation of Labour women. The event focused on the best way for us to get our voices heard, the campaign tools we can exploit and the barriers to participation. The panel shared their experiences of working with the Labour party and facilitated a discussion about what support we need to build our own campaigns.
Protecting all women shortlists, building our networks and getting selected, holding positions within the party and turning a great idea into a great campaign – these issues and more were up for debate and discussion.
Young female members met other members, shared their own experiences and learned from more experienced campaigners.
LWN’S ANNUAL FUNDRAISING DINNER: LWN held its annual dinner in June 2011, in celebration of the life of Margaret Bondfield MP. Speakers included Alison McGovern MP and Yvette Cooper MP, with Oona King holding the auction. More than 200 women and men attended.
