Become An MP

Becoming a Parliamentary Candidate

An Intensive Residential Course for Aspiring MPs

This weekend course is for women who are seriously considering becoming a parliamentary candidate. Graduates from it in previous years have entered parliament at every election since 1992, and some have gone on to hold ministerial office. It is a very tough and concentrated two days, but it provides participants with a thorough grounding in what is required and how it may be achieved. The course content includes:

A guide to the Party’s selection procedures
Training on writing a CV and personal statement
Advice on presentation, confidence-building and self-assessment
Campaign training, including leaflet and letter design, relationship building and online campaigning
Practical advice on planning, decision-making and prioritising
Public speaking training
Press and media training, including press releases, radio and television
Confidence-building, networking and personal development
Access to LWN’s mentoring scheme

This course is heavily subsidised by LWN, and the charge to participants is only £100. Accommodation on the Saturday night is included, as are all refreshments and meals except dinner. The fee is payable in advance and is non-returnable in the event of non-attendance. Any woman member of the Party may apply for a place, but women who are not LWN members will be required to join if their application is accepted.

All LWN trainers and mentors have themselves been trained by us, and receive regular refresher training and assessment to ensure that our high standards are maintained.

Please note that places on this course are very limited, and available only to women who, in our judgement, will benefit from it. Feedback will be provided if your application is not accepted.
