In May 1997, the Labour Party made history by electing 101 women MPs. This was the result of the work of women across the party who campaigned so hard for all women’s shortlists and for women’s power and agency in the Labour Party. Join us at an anniversary celebration dinner on 15 May at the Vincent Rooms in Westminster to celebrate Labour women’s achievements and support further progress.
This dinner will be a chance for Labour women from across the movement and across our recent history to come together, catch up and refocus on the next steps. We’re delighted to have the support of women who have led our party, our movement and our country for this event – Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP, Baroness Tessa Jowell, Baroness Margaret Prosser, Cat Smith MP, Rt Hon Jacqui Smith, Baroness Estelle Morris, Rt Hon Hazel Blears, Fiona Mactaggart, Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, Baroness Bev Hughes, Claire Ward and many more will be there. Join them!
Funded by our members and supporters, Labour Women’s Network has been leading the campaign for women’s representation with our Time to Lead campaign. Many current women MPs and candidates have benefitted from our well respected training which we are now developing for women in local government and throughout the party. While 50:50 representation is in sight in 2020, Labour women are still lagging behind in leadership positions across the party.
There’s progress to be celebrated and more work to be done. We would love to see you on the 15th.
