The Crichton Fund

When Veronica Crichton died on April 8th 2002 at the age of 53, everyone who knew her were stunned by the news. A keen advocate for women, Veronica had worked for the Labour Party, been a journalist, worked as a freelance consultant for the Party, the GLC and later the London Assembly, as well as using her extensive skills to advise trade unions, commercial companies, groups and individuals. Many of the current women MP's could tell stories of how Veronica helped and advised them.

Veronica joined LWN as our Communications Officer and was part of the training team at one of our residential weekends just a few weeks before her death. No one realised she was so ill, and she was her usual tough self in her constructive criticism of the women participants taking part in the training. Veronica always managed to get her point across firmly whilst still being kind.

The inaugural Crichton Fund Memorial Lecture, attended by over 60 people, was held on Wednesday 7th July 2004 in London with guest, Jackie Ashley, speaking on the subject of Women and Politics - an unhappy match? The full text of which can be viewed in the PDF format Crichton Lecture document. It is hoped to have another lecture in 2006.
